What's up niches?

Does anyone else ever get tired of the dirt bike niches? It seems everyone gets off on defining EXACTLY how they do, and don’t, ride their dirt bike. Motocross guys make fun of the cross-country guys for not jumping. Cross-country guys make fun of motocrossers for having to jump. Then there are the hardcore enduro guys who laugh at everyone else because their bars aren’t narrow enough to ride through a standard bathroom door in 5th gear.

Does it really have to be that divided?

I dig the thought of races like the original Hopetown GP. It wasn’t really specifically motocross or cross-country, it was just riding your dirt bike fast. I think that the WORCS race series is probably the closest thing to that. Sure there are more jumps now but look at the bikes we’re riding. I also think a lot can be learned from mountain bike videos. They throw a little of everything into their trails. They’ve got flowing berms, technical sections, fun flow jumps, some more berms, and ridiculously big gaps.

That’s what we’re shooting for at Chicken Creek, a fun place to ride your dirt bike on a little bit of everything. Nobody there is a motocrosser, a flattracker, or an enduro…er.

Only simple dirt bikers in Slick.

  1. Good blog post. I never make fun of mx goons. Quite the contrary, I envy them. I wish I had balls big enough to clear big jumps.
Simple riders at Chicken Creek Slick is da bomb.
